Stories about people's Für Elise experiences

Falling Leaves in the Autumn

This story was submitted by Anonymous Author and was added around October 2010.

Für Elise was the one song my mother could play on the piano. She knew it by heart, but we also had the sheet music: This was an individual piece of sheet music––a leaflet with a cover page that had a colorful picture of autumn maple leaves falling down the page. I was very young and could not yet read. The melody reminded me of falling leaves, so I confused the title "Für Elise" with "Falling Leaves." When I wanted to hear my mother play this melody (which was often), I would ask her to play "Falling Leaves," and for many years, I believed this was the actual title.
